On April 12th, 2025, the Yale Quantum Institute brought YQuantum into World Quantum Year, continuing its legacy of excellence in bringing the brightest quantum minds to solve some of the industry’s most pressing problems.

YQuantum 2025 fielded 700 registrants from 29 countries, featuring students from 104 universities around the world. Out of the registrants, the attendees formed 79 teams to work on 9 challenges set by industry sponsors.

The two-day schedule blended workshops and lab tours with networking opportunities for the participants, allowing them to work on their projects while benefiting from Yale’s pioneering facilities in quantum information science and quantum engineering.

YQuantum 2024 featured nine exciting challenges ranging from quantum statistical mechanics to applications of quantum computing in logistics and finance. Here’s what the participants built over the weekend.

Alice & Bob

From noise to information: reconstruct quantum states from Wigner functions.

The Hartford • Capgemini • Rigetti

Work with correlated insurance portfolios and use quantum optimization to minimize risk.

BlueQubit

Find hidden messages within peaked circuits, working towards quantum advantage.

Travelers • Capgemini • Quantinuum

Use quantum-accelerated graph coloring to minimize wildfire risk.

QuEra

Work with state-of-the-art neutral atom gatesets to advance digital quantum computing.

Travelers • LTIMindtree • QuEra

Use quantum-accelerated algorithms to optimize claim processing for insurance.

Quantum Rings

Use Shor’s algorithm to semiclassically factor the largest possible number.

Superquantum

Develop quantum-enhanced hash functions for applications in blockchain and crypto.

Tahoe Quantum

Leverage quantum optimization to improve wildfire response and boost lifesaving.
